Making a Complaint

All complaints should be submitted in writing to the BCMA Administrator and must include the following:

  • The name of the practitioner, association, or school

  • The nature of the complaint

  • The name of the person you are complaining about

  • Any written evidence (please do not send this with your initial complaint, but retain it in case it's needed later)

  • Your preferred outcome

Your complaint will be treated as confidential during the initial stages, while we:

  • Confirm whether the individual is currently registered with the BCMA

  • Identify which association, school, or category they are registered under

Once this has been established, you will be informed of the practitioner’s status and directed to the appropriate Association or School’s complaints procedure. You must register your complaint with them first. However, a BCMA Officer will be assigned to oversee the matter and request updates, including the final outcome.

If the practitioner is an Independent or Affiliate member not associated with an organisation, the complaint will be handled directly by the BCMA. A BCMA Officer will:

  • Contact you for further details

  • Request a response from the practitioner

  • Once both sides have been heard, the BCMA will make a ruling and inform you of the decision.

  • If you are dissatisfied with the handling or outcome by either the Association, School, or BCMA, you may request an appeal. An appeal committee will be formed, consisting of:

  • A BCMA Officer

  • At least one practitioner in the relevant therapy

  • One layperson

The appeal fee is £150.

Timeframes & Communication

  • All complaints will be acknowledged within 5 working days

  • All complaints will be reviewed and actioned within 2 weeks

  • You will be informed of the next steps and assigned a BCMA Officer

  • Your Officer will ensure timely updates and communication

  • You will receive a written outcome, and a copy will be retained by the BCMA

All complaints are treated as confidential.
